An article has been published on 22nd June, 2018 in The Assam Tribune stressing in the importance of overpopulation amongst cat and dog. It highlighted the problem of population explosion and pet overpopulation has been highlighted time and again at different platforms. It talks about the negligence of people before they adopt pet and preventive steps to be taken off after they adapt a pet. Animal Birth Control and Anti Rabies Vaccination (ABC-ARV) program are developed by World Health Organisation (WHO) to control pet overpopulation. India has therefore adopted the ABC-ARV program in 1964 to control pet overpopulation instead of euthanizing them. JBF(Just Be Friendly) is extensively working for birth control and rabies control through the animal birth control and Anti Rabies programs for Dogs( Street dogs) since 2009.

Dr Sashanka Sekhar Dutta was felicitated at Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science on World Rabies Day.

Dr Sashanka Sekhar Dutta was a part of a 7-day program for World Rabies Day held at Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science. This week-long program that started on 22nd September, has been quite successful in making an awareness about Rabies across the nearby places of Lakhimpur. As a part of the program, awareness camps were held in nearby government, non-government schools of Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science and among the general people as well. JBF, a social sector organization that is led by Dr Sashanka Sekhar Dutta provided free vaccination to the free-roaming dogs, domestic dogs and cats and LCVS organized sterilization camp for dogs. JBF has been successful in helping the forest department in the screening of Canine Distemper in the fringe area of Kaziranga.

Just Be Friendly (JBF) – the NGO in Assam working for protection of animals, particularly stray dogs have embarked upon an ambitious vaccination programme for the stray dogs roaming around the Kaziranga National Park. Blood sample drive also conducted of these stray dogs roaming in the vicinity of the Kaziranga National Park. A team of veterinarians from the national park, members of the NGO, and representatives from the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) of Barapani in Meghalaya have been catching these stray dogs by nets and collected blood samples. The team is being led by veterinarians from Kaziranga, Dr DebabrataPhukan and Dr BiswajitBarua.
