SOCIETAL ACTIVITIES

Dr. Sashanka Sekhar Dutta is a true embodiment of dedication and service, with a remarkable journey that spans various domains and organizations. As a veterinarian, he has not only excelled in his profession but also made significant contributions to society and animal welfare.

One of his recent achievements was the successful execution of the 12th FSAPAI CE & 19th WSAVA India CE, held from 17th to 19th February 2023 in Guwahati. This event brought together veterinary professionals from across the country, fostering knowledge exchange and advancements in the field.

In addition to his veterinary work, Dr. Dutta has been actively involved in the Rotary Club of Guwahati, one of the oldest Rotary Clubs in the world and the first one in Northeast India. He has served as the General Secretary for the term 2020-2021, Vice-President for the term 2021-2022, and is currently the President for the tenure 2023-2024. Through the Rotary Club, he has been instrumental in providing various services to the community, making a positive impact on people’s lives.

Dr. Dutta’s contributions to the veterinary field extend beyond his local community. He has served as a former Executive member and Joint Secretary of the Small Animal Practitioners Associations (SAPA), mobilizing veterinarians from the Northeast part of India, conducting educational and awareness programs, and liaising with governments. He is currently the General Secretary of SAPA and a Constitutional Committee Member of the Federation of Small Animal Practitioners Association of India (FSAPAI), a member organization of WSAVA.

His dedication to animal welfare is evident in his roles as a Trustee of ABC INDIA, a pan-Indian trust committed to rabies eradication and humane dog population management, and as a Co-opted member of the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI). Dr. Dutta’s passion for animals is also reflected in his work as a clinician at Hiyaa’s Clinic and Surgical Centre for pets in Guwahati, where he provides essential services to both pets and community animals. Furthermore, he has also attended the training of National Institute of Animal Welfare (NIAW) for Honorary Animal Welfare Officer.

Beyond his veterinary and social work, Dr. Dutta is a member of the Guwahati Management Association, actively involved in various activities to develop the city. He has served as an Honorary Animal Welfare Officer and Co-opted member of AWBI, contributed his skills and expertise to the Assam Association, Delhi, and become a Life Member of organizations like Early Birds and Beauty Without Cruelty (BWC) – India, championing environmental protection and animal rights. Thus, the breadth of Dr. Dutta’s endeavours is awe-inspiring.

Dr. Dutta’s commitment to personal growth and development is evident in his role as the Executive Coordinator in Delhi for the Jeevan Initiative, a voluntary organization that aims to inform youths about global developments and raise awareness about available opportunities.

Apart from this, Dr. Dutta’s has a commendable ability to orchestrate successful events which is evident in his role as the Festival Convenor for Trend MMS. His exceptional management skills and effective liaison with stakeholders have transformed festivals such as Rongali, North East Festival, Colours of North-East, and the Sankardeva Movement into grand celebrations, uniting communities and showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the region.

In his role as the Executive Coordinator in Delhi for the Jeevan Initiative, Dr. Dutta empowers youth and fosters a sense of awareness and positivity. By celebrating the positive aspects of life and bringing awareness about global developments and available opportunities, he ignites a spark within the younger generation, inspiring them to reach for the stars.
